It is confirmed that Devon's holy one is playing this festival - and I can report that Big Boy Steve has just booked the first tickets sold for this event - front row - centre 4 seats.
the tickets are not yet available online and the gig is not being promoted yet on their website - but they can be bought over the phone at the box office - tel -01293 553636.
So that's the 27th June - a Friday - get ringing!!!!!!!
All good things

Believe me Ruby, if you get yourself into the front row with HBD there will be NO sitting Shocked
he is a VERY bad influence Wink and led a stage invasion at Canterbury (and that was from the middle of the SECOND row) Rolling Eyes

As HBD's carer I can confirm that

he is a VERY bad influence

is indeed true.

Well, all I can say is you’re ALL a very bad influence and I hope to see you there; it’d be just great to meet up. Finally cracked on the ‘Never seeing Seth at a sit down gig ever again’ rule as you can never meet enough lovely but bonkers Mirelings plus I had to miss Ben’s Brighton gigs – I’d tell you all about it but my language is a fecking disgrace at the best of times Rolling Eyes

Second row back so I’m dangerously close to the Dancing Dads Shocked (though not as dangerously close as Seth and the boys Shocked Shocked Shocked ) and thankfully for Ben over by Seth and Sean this time around so I’m guessing and hoping right behind Katee and G and Ma and Pa?

Haven’t a clue how I’m going to stay in seat though so I’d have your tranquilliser dart gun at the ready Wink

See you there or (keeping absolutely everything rather painfully crossed Shocked ) at the Q gig…

PS Guess who?

And me, would love to come to Crawley but a long way to go for a gig(might be the final Seth straw that would break my marriage!) Embarassed

However I think we should all qualify for Q tickets as when it first started they were on a "first come first serve basis" and I am sure we were all VERY quick off the mark Rolling Eyes

I was wondering if they realised ALL the early entrants were Mirelings so changed the rules to try and keep us out Shocked

Which with thought is a rather ridiculous notion, since we are clearly the more dedicated sector of the fanbase. Why would any management seek to actively discourage the support of an avid fanbase? Fine, we may be quirky and a bit unsettling at times but we mean well and we value the music and we pay their damn salaries in the long run and surely what it comes down to is that without the buyers there would be no industry? So why the heck do things turn out this way? It can't be much to Seth's liking either to have his fans turned away at the door in favour of a random sample of less enthusiastic followers.

A bit like the elusive competition - fine if none of us won, but strange that there had been no announcement of who did actually win.

FIX - like the Blue Peter cat naming debarle.......

It'd be great to meet up with you all one day at a Seth gig, I've always met so many great people there and had such a laugh and so have they - usually at my 'dancing' but that's a whole other story Rolling Eyes

Still keeping absolutely everything rather painfully crossed for those Q gig tickets Shocked

WARNING! LONG-WINDED RANT AHEAD

<rant>

Assuming half the stuff that Relentless gets bitch-called about on here is true, I can't believe they don't get this simple principle:

YOUR FANS ARE YOUR BIGGEST ASSET

Not the music, your classic "intellectual property" so beloved of venture capitalists (which, of course, R will have presumably got Seth to sign away to them just like every other poor sod of a musician who signs for a label). The fans. THE FANS. Without fans, there is no one to pay for the music. No one to go the gigs. No one to buy the t-shirt. Without the fans, you have nothing.

I'm no expert music promoter, but surely this is music marketing 101?

I speculate they've become so obsessed trying to hook new fans, with "introducing Seth Lakeman to new audiences", they've completely forgotten not just that perhaps it's a good idea to keep the ones you've already got happy, but more to the point that the passion of fans as committed and enthusiastic as Seth's is something that, with very little effort, can be harnessed into a kick-ass grass roots promotional powerhouse that'll basically do your work for you for free.

Another Seth, who literally wrote the book on this, says it better in one of his regular rants about how the music industry just doesn't get it:

Quote:

"Permission is the asset of the future
...
permission is an asset to be earned. The ability (not the right, but the privilege) of delivering anticipated, personal and relevant messages to people who want to get them. For ten years, the music business has been steadfastly avoiding this opportunity.

It’s interesting though, because many musicians have NOT been avoiding it. Many musicians have understood that all they need to make a (very good) living is to have 10,000 fans. 10,000 people who look forward to the next record, who are willing to trek out to the next concert. Add 7 fans a day and you’re done in 5 years. Set for life. A life making music for your fans, not finding fans for your music."
http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/01/music-lessons.html

Or, whatever happened to the good, old-fashioned fan club? Where's the "exclusive previews" and "special offers for mire/mailing list members" it'd be so achingly easy to put together, and would cost no one much of anything at all? Someone send these guys on an Internet Marketing for Dummies course before my head explodes in frustration. Please. Please. PLEASE

OK, rant over </rant>

Well said Sophie.

It's a bit of a contrast to the Londogs forum for Show of Hands.

Have a look at this.

Aaw, lucky you, Katee and thanks for your texts lovey. Just a 'quick and dirty' review from me as I was hijacked at Brighton Station and made to drink scrumpy till silly o'clock - yowser! Shocked

Have to admit this old punk approached this sit down (eeek!) gig with some trepidation as I've always found Crawley to be one of the most buttoned down, scarily sensible places I've ever been to which is a bit of a shock for this Brighton bird. However last night was complete carnage for which Ladies and Gentleman of Crawley, I salute you! You were truly, indisputably, wonderfully, terrifyingly, totally and utterly UP FOR IT!!! Sethmania is an understatement; it was complete mayhem in there - marvellous! Laughing Laughing Laughing

But first the support acts. Now you know you're in for a good night when a handsome young man (YOUNG MAN!) whips off his shirt, hurls it across the room and belts out some frantic flamenco at you. Now that's what I call a Friday night Shocked Sorry ladies, not the Mr Lakemans but the thoroughly bonkers Blabbermouth who set the tone very nicely for the night. Imagine a slimmed down Justin Collins but twice as barking. He was very, very funny and you have to love a man who sings 'I was in my element, I danced down the hall like an elephant' . Along with the rest of the audience, I roared laughing. Seth was doing his usual lurking by the sound desk chuckling away too. Well until half the audience spotted him, jumped up like meerkats and he went and hid behind the speaker like a big girl's blouse. You can find Blabbermouth at www.myspace.com/therealblabbermouth - he likes to chat about fish - apparently.

Very much mixed opinion on the next act, Flossie M a French chanteuse by way of Darlington who I found charming and also very funny and who did covers including Janis Ian, Edith Piaf and the Eagles with some great banter about the differences between French and English (Bless his cotton socks? What's wrong with all the other socks?) Mind you, I should have guessed what we were in for when she introduced a song with 'Are there any 'Wild Ladies' here tonight?' and the audience yelled 'Yes!' Shocked

And this was absolutely without doubt the very best and the very craziest Seth gig I have ever been too! It was just hilarious like some mad competition to see who could take it higher - Seth and the boys or the audience. Talk about 'I'll see you and I'll raise you!' and 'Straight back at you Seth'. In HBD's words, it was like Beatlemania in there. The stage area was mobbed with crazy ladies, the audience were up on their feet screaming and clapping and stomping away, the aisles were packed out and the stairways were wedged - it was fanbl**dytastic! Laughing Laughing Laughing

And that young Mr Lakeman had more than a bit of the devil in him last night - he was SOOO bad! He kept whipping the audience up into an absolute frenzy, getting them to bounce higher and higher and higher (Oh, the power!) and then scampering off laughing with a carefree 'Are they loud, Ben?', 'Alright, Sean?' over his shoulder then stepping back to survey the wreckage and laughing himself silly. And Sean was hilarious; when the ladies first kicked off I swear his hair stood completely on end Arrow Shocked Shocked Shocked He made Seth laugh so much at one point by giving it LARGE and rocking out Bryan Adams style that I thought Seth was going to fall on the floor laughing. By the end of the gig, Sean was just dancing down at the front like a demon and cracking up laughing with a 'WTF is going on here' expression on his face and he wasn't the only one, I can tell you!

In the words of Seth 'Crawley? Who'd have thought it! This is better than Glastonbury, much, much better' which got many more nods and much more laughter from the lads. What a night! What a night! And so lovely as always to catch up with Katee and family and Nia and the Dancing Dads and all the other lovely, friendly, funny people I keep bumping into at Seth gigs! Such a perfect, perfect evening, thank you all! Laughing More about the music later but is off to the beach for a beer now! Wink

I'm slightly more awake now and having read Ruth's fantastic review theres not really much more that I can add, so as soon as I've uploaded my pix I'll let the photos do the talking!!

Just wanted to add that as ever it was fab to meet up with the lovely Ruth and Nia again - just a shame it always seems to be a quick chat before showtime!!

Great night x
